Like a True Friend

Psalm 55
13 But it is you, a man like myself,
my companion, my close friend,

14 with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship
as we walked with the throng at the house of God.

15 Let death take my enemies by surprise;
let them go down alive to the grave, [a]
for evil finds lodging among them.

16 But I call to God,
and the LORD saves me.

17 Evening, morning and noon
I cry out in distress,
and he hears my voice.

18 He ransoms me unharmed
from the battle waged against me,
even though many oppose me.

Like a true friend we can enjoy our fellowship with God. How? in our prayers, in our bible reading and in our talk with people. For me he is like my closest friend whom I can always be honest and whom I can trust. We suppose to recognize the presence of God in our daily lives. If we do it, it is like we can be secure. In verse 19, expresses that the man in the Psalm was like unharmed from the battle waged against him. Isn't it awesome? Therefore God is just beside us when we call His name like a friend.

The World is Mine

Psalm 50
8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices
or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.

9 I have no need of a bull from your stall
or of goats from your pens,

10 for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.

11 I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are mine.

12 If I were hungry I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.

Have you ever wonder if God would be needing our money? What it means to have sacrificial giving? I guess we are like the same, we wonder how much God would require us to give like in our tithes and offering or in our time. But the real question is, what kind of attitude do we have when we give? Do you look on how much you can give? or do you look on your heart when you can still give even out of your poverty. Try to look the widows offering
(Luke21:1-4) How about the person who cannot really give. How God looks at them? Does it mean that God will not bless them? That remains in the grace of God. The true heart of giving is beyond our thoughts and our understanding, but God knows it all.

Undivided Heart

A Prayer of David
Psalm 86
11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.

13 For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths of the grave. [a]

I remember when I was just young in my faith, my heart is divided to commit serving God. I still recalled the agony of my heart. There is a part of me of my heart that I wanted to obey and there is a part that is saying “No, you can’t do it, it will be hard for you to commit, just do your own. “ My heart was heavy and in anguish. Why should I be troubled this way? Why Am I bothered? Am I normal to feel this way? I want an answer. I need a refuge. I want sympathy. I want to be comforted. Until I encountered this prayer of David. I realized that I was not alone. Thousands years ago, someone can relate with me… I prayed to God that same prayer of David. God answered and helped me to carry on.

This is a normal struggle for someone who desire to please God. From the letter of Paul to the Romans in the book of Romans 7:18-25, there is real spiritual battle and it is stronger to the one who are called for a godly noble purpose. From this scripture it says, it is through Christ unconditional love that we are saved from our pitiful, wretched sinful human nature. Understanding why Jesus died for me and for you on the Cross is a God’s grace. Jesus suffered bruises, insults and abandonment was not easy for him, being a human that time. But because he loves us, He chose to die that way in order for us to receive a new life. And for me to be able to live with hope, peace and joy.
